6 Steps to Help you Achieve your Goals

What are your career goals? Have you achieved them yet? If not, what is stopping you from achieving them?

I have just returned from a hike to the summit of Mount Toubkal, which is the highest mountain in North Africa and it has taught me a lot about reaching my own goals.

What are you striving for at the moment? Are you struggling to achieve your career goals or your personal goals?

Below are 6 simple steps to bring you closer to your next promotion, increasing your income or being happier in your personal life.

1. Check your mindset.

Whatever your goal, it is important to believe that you are going to achieve it, and that you will do everything that you can to make it work.

Plan the date into your diary, tell people about what you are working towards and think about what you need to do to get there.

When you truly decide that you are going to do something, you don’t just draw a line in the sand, you draw it in the cement.

2. Set objectives.

If a salesperson wants to make more commission, it is important for them to think what it takes to achieve their goals and use them to set daily targets.

How many people do they need to speak to per week/day/hour?

The same concept applied on the mountain, we would set individual targets, whether that was to get to the next ridge, the camp or to the nearest water stop.

We are all motivated by success and progression, if you can break the task down into small objectives, you will start to see progress.

3. Don’t do it alone.

We could never have made it up the mountain without the knowledge of the local guide to show us the safest route.

The same concept applies in your workplace, even if you are self-employed learn from the other salespeople around you and share your experiences, ask what has worked for them, and what they found difficult.

4. Persevere

Inevitably; something will happen that is out of your control, try to view these as challenges instead of barriers. On the mountain, the weather took a bad turn and started to take effect. At this stage it was all about putting one foot in front of the other, knowing that eventually, those small steps would take us to the top.

The same thing applies to your career, keep doing the little things that you know are important in achieving your career goals and eventually you will get there.

5. Reflect

Try to reflect on what was challenging and what went well and learn important lessons.

Have you been promoted? Did you ever think (or ask) what did you do to achieve that promotion? Perhaps you closed a difficult sale? What did you do right to achieve that target?

It is important to celebrate your successes and learn by reflecting on how far you have come. This will keep you motivated and prepared to.

6. Take on your next challenge

Try not to stand still, constantly develop yourself and stay competitive in the workplace.

As soon as we were back, we were planning our next challenge, we’re thinking about a cycling holiday, South America,???…Help us decide, leave a comment about ideal places and countries!
