Water Treatment Sales Advisor — Part-Time

Water Treatment Sales Advisor — Three or Four Days a Week

Your experience is the product

Households aged 50 to 64 are the most active spenders on home improvement in the UK, putting around 21% of their housing expenditure into upgrading the home they are already in.

That is who you will be sitting with — and it is why a good number of our clients’ advisors work this role semi-retired. Credibility with a homeowner of that age, at their own kitchen table, is earned by having lived a bit. Here, experience is an asset rather than something to explain away.

What the week looks like

Three or four days a week, roughly one appointment a day — around 15 a month. Our client’s marketing team generates the enquiries and books your diary, clustered by postcode so you work a tight patch rather than crossing a region. No prospecting, no cold calling, no rota.

This is a popular pattern with experienced salespeople who have stepped back from a full diary but have no intention of stopping. It is not a probation you graduate from and not a lesser tier — it is one of three supported ways to work the role, and you can move between them as your circumstances change.

What you earn

Approximately £60,000 a year on around 15 appointments a month. That reflects what current part-time advisors actually earn.

  • 25% uplift on any appointment you source yourself, uncapped
  • Top gear at around 2.5–3.5 months
  • Paid once the system is installed

The appointment

You are in the customer’s home to demonstrate, not to pitch. You test their water, show them what softened water actually does, understand what is bothering them — limescale, appliance failures, dry skin, the state of the shower screen — and quote against it. It is a consultative, product-led conversation, which is why product knowledge matters more here than technique.

Around 38% of sales are agreed on the day; the other 62% come back within one to four days. Advisors who follow up properly and keep clear notes materially outperform those who do not — which tends to suit people who have been doing this a while.

Now the honest part

The best appointments are early evenings and weekends. You choose how many days you work, but the hours that convert are not nine to five.

You are a self-employed contractor. No salary, no rota, no ceiling.

You are paid on installation, not at the point of sale. A sale agreed in July is fitted through August and paid in September, so your first payment lands a few weeks after your first sale.

In-home or direct sales experience is non-negotiable. Our client trains you to be an expert in water; it does not teach you how to sell — which is exactly why this suits someone with a career behind them.

What is provided

  • Pre-booked, postcode-clustered appointments
  • Demonstration and testing equipment on loan at zero cost — no outlay to start
  • Product training at a pace designed for you to retain it, then shadowing, then solo
  • 24/7 phone support and ongoing coaching from your regional sales manager
  • A 90-day money-back guarantee on the product to sell behind

Who this suits

Experienced in-home or direct sales people, ideally with an established contact base, who want to keep working on their own terms without a full diary. You will need your own car and a full UK licence, comfort with a CRM and a tablet, and to be able to work within FCA requirements on consumer finance.

It will not work if you need a guaranteed monthly salary, or income before your first installation completes.

About our client

Softening British water since the 1970s: made in Britain, WRAS-approved, and the best-known name in domestic water softening in this country. Now part of a global water treatment group with over 80 years in the industry. Only around 9% of eligible UK households have a softener and 57% have never heard of one, so your market is large, largely unaware of the product, and sitting in postcodes already mapped for you.

We do not name our client here, but we tell you exactly who they are on the first call.

What happens when you apply

Leave your name, number and CV. Citrus Connect calls you for a short, informal conversation — what you have sold, how much you want to work, and whether this is the right fit. No long forms, no assessment centre.
