Growing a Recruitment Business: Citrus Connect’s Defining Year

Some years test a business. Others define it. For us at Citrus Connect, 2025 was a year of exceptional growth, greater clarity and renewed focus. What made it particularly significant wasn’t only the commercial results we achieved, but what we learned about growing a recruitment business through periods of both opportunity and challenge.

Sustainable growth takes more than increasing placements or winning new clients. It requires the right people, processes and culture to grow alongside the business. Over the past year, we strengthened each of these areas, from refining our recruitment processes and investing in technology to developing our leadership approach and deepening long-standing client relationships.

At the heart of that progress was a continued focus on the principles that shape what makes Citrus Connect different: ownership, accountability, transparency and a genuine commitment to the people we work with. Those principles helped us achieve our strongest year to date while building the foundations for sustainable growth in the years ahead.

Record Performance Built on Consistency and Care

From a performance perspective, 2025 marked our strongest year to date. We achieved record turnover, expanded long-standing client relationships and increased placement volumes across both employed and self-employed sales roles. This growth reflected increasing demand from clients looking for a recruitment partner that could deliver quickly without compromising on quality.

Behind those results was a deliberate focus on improving how we work. We invested in our recruitment processes, data visibility and client communication, helping us reduce time to hire while maintaining high standards of candidate matching. Our progress was also reflected in wider industry recognition, with Citrus Connect celebrating two new awards during a year of continued growth.

But growing a recruitment business sustainably isn’t simply about increasing placement numbers. We’ve continued to prioritise retention, performance and long-term fit, recognising that our clients aren’t just filling vacancies. They’re building teams that need to perform consistently and grow alongside their business.

Leadership Shaped by Real Experience

Alongside commercial growth, 2025 brought significant personal challenges across our leadership team and wider business. Members of our team navigated major life events, from motherhood and health diagnoses to relationship breakdowns and personal loss. These experiences tested our resilience and reinforced the importance of building a business that supports its people as much as its clients.

Rather than slowing our progress, these challenges encouraged a more intentional approach to leadership. We placed greater emphasis on trust, transparency and shared ownership, creating a structure where people could take responsibility, feel supported and perform sustainably.

This approach reflects many of the principles set out in our 2025 company manifesto, where our founder, Leena Parmar, outlined the values and ambitions guiding Citrus Connect’s next stage of growth.

Those experiences have also influenced how we operate as a recruitment business. Our leadership decisions are increasingly rooted in long-term thinking, ethical practice and clear expectations, helping us grow without losing sight of the culture and values that got us here.

The Employeepreneur Mindset Delivering Results

A central part of our growth in 2025 was the continued development of the Employeepreneur mindset. This approach focuses on identifying sales professionals who demonstrate ownership, accountability and purpose, qualities we believe contribute to stronger individual and team performance.

Throughout the year, we continued to refine how we identify these qualities during recruitment and how we help clients understand what they can bring to a growing sales team. This has become an important part of what makes Citrus Connect different and shapes the way we approach long-term candidate fit.

Our work with clients also extended beyond filling roles. We provided guidance around role design, commission structures and onboarding strategies, helping businesses think more carefully about what happens before and after a new hire joins the team.

For us, this is an important part of growing a recruitment business sustainably. Growth isn’t simply about making more placements. It’s about improving the value we provide to clients and candidates while continuing to develop an approach that delivers stronger long-term outcomes.

Case Study: Building Long-Term Stability with Oak Tree Mobility

Our long-standing partnership with Oak Tree Mobility demonstrates what a more considered, data-led approach to recruitment can achieve. When we began working together in 2022, around 20 placements were being made each year. The opportunity wasn’t simply to increase hiring volume, but to identify the right people and improve long-term retention.

We introduced a candidate profiling project to identify the traits and behaviours shared by Oak Tree Mobility’s top performers. This was supported by quarterly and annual recruitment matrix analysis, alongside monthly meetings to keep our approach aligned with the company’s changing needs.

The results demonstrate why we prioritise quality and long-term fit over placement volume:

  • 100% 12-week retention rate for placements made by Citrus Connect
  • 50 sales representatives successfully recruited and maintained across the UK
  • Around 50% fewer placements required each year, compared with when the partnership began in 2022

For us, needing to make fewer placements isn’t a negative result. It’s evidence that a more precise approach to candidate profiling can reduce repeated hiring and create greater stability for our clients.

The partnership reflects an important lesson we’ve carried into growing a recruitment business: success shouldn’t be measured by placement volume alone. Better recruitment means finding people who are suited to the role, stay in the business and contribute over the long term.

Technology Supporting Scale and Transparency

As Citrus Connect grew, technology played an important role in helping our processes grow with us. Improvements to our CRM systems, automation and reporting increased efficiency internally while giving clients greater visibility throughout the recruitment process.

For us, the purpose of technology isn’t to replace human judgement. It’s to give our consultants better information, reduce unnecessary manual processes and create more time for the conversations and decisions that require recruitment expertise.

A Culture Built for Long-Term Success

Growth throughout 2025 also reinforced the importance of the culture behind Citrus Connect. Open communication, mutual support and accountability became even more central to how we worked together, particularly as the team navigated periods of both professional and personal change.

Our commitment to ethical recruitment and transparency remained non-negotiable, shaping how we work with candidates, clients and each other. That responsibility also extends beyond recruitment through our approach to Corporate Social Responsibility, from supporting our communities to creating a workplace where people feel valued.

The strength of these relationships can also be seen in our long-standing client partnerships and repeat business. For us, growing a recruitment business sustainably means protecting the values and culture behind it, rather than allowing them to become diluted as the business expands.

Looking Ahead with Confidence

As we look ahead, our focus remains on sustainable growth. We plan to grow revenue by 30–50% compared with 2025, welcome four new consultants to the team and continue expanding our presence in emerging markets.

We’re also exploring opportunities in financial services and the security sector as part of our wider diversification strategy. Alongside this, we’ll continue investing in precision hiring, consultant performance, our digital presence and the systems that have supported our growth so far.

The lessons of 2025 have given us a clearer understanding of what growing a recruitment business sustainably requires. Strong processes and commercial ambition matter, but so do the people, relationships and values behind them.

This was a defining year for Citrus Connect, not simply because of what we achieved, but because of how we achieved it. With stronger foundations and a clearer direction, we’re ready to build on that momentum.

The next chapter is already taking shape, and we’re looking forward to the people and partnerships that will be part of it. If you’d like to be one of them, get in touch with our team.
